David Beckham was injured on Sunday while playing for AC Milan in Italy and collapsed on the field. His participation in the World Cup is now in doubt.
According to the BBC, AC Milan coach Leonardo told reporters on Sunday, “Beckham’s injury makes us feel terrible. He understood immediately that he had torn his [left] Achilles tendon.”
According to People, the 34-year-old soccer star will see a specialist in Finland today and possibly have surgery today or Tuesday.
Wife Victoria Beckham is reportedly jetting out of LA on Monday to be by David’s side.
“He is understandably upset but wants to thank everyone who has sent message of support. He hopes to make a swift recovery,” his rep told the mag.
Beckham, who has appeared in three World Cups over his career, will reportedly need up to three months to recover from surgery. His participation in the World Cup in June in South Africa is unlikely.
