Dazed And Confused Pseudo Sequel Planned

Director Richard Linklater has been toying with a sequel to 1993’s classic “Dazed and Confused” for a while – but will his planned follow-up include Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck and Parker Posey?

An announcement from the director on Wednesday had fans of the stoner movie momentarily putting down their bongs – but the planned movie is not an out-and-out sequel that follows the same characters, but something he’s previously referred to as “spiritual sequel” to his high school coming of age story.

During a Reddit chat session this week, Linklater wrote that he was “hoping to make [the movie] this fall, actually” and described it as a “college comedy” that will have “a big ensemble.”

In 2009, he talked about the “spiritual sequel,” which is titled “That’s What I’m Talking About.”

“I carefully called it a spiritual sequel to ‘Dazed’ ‘cause it’s not the same characters,” he told Collider at the time. “If ‘Dazed’ was my high school, this is my college. It’s about a weekend in college in that time period. It’s funny… I think it’s the funniest thing I ever wrote.”

“That’s What I’m Talking About” is said to be set in the ‘80s.

The director’s latest film, “Before Midnight,” with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, opens in theaters on May 24.
