Dean Cain Talks B—- In Apt 23 Feud With James Van Der Beek

Dean Cain joined James Van Der Beek on the first season finale of “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt 23” on Wednesday night, with the pair playing exaggerated, washed up versions of themselves who will face off on a fictional version of “Dancing with the Stars.”

While the ABC sitcom uses both Dean and James’ former TV fame as fodder for comedy gold, Dean said the self-deprecating humor is what makes the show one to watch.

“What’s fun about that show, what I love about that show – and James is so funny on it – is you really get the joke,” Dean told AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman at the “American Idol” finale of his guest role on “…B—- in Apt 23.” “You’ve gotta make fun of yourself!”

The 45-year-old former “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” star – whose character enraged James by boasting a dressing room six inches larger than The Beek’s on the faux “DWTS” – admitted that while he’s not nearly as petty and ego-fragile as his character, he definitely knows a few actors who are.

“[James and I] are playing caricatures of each other, but you know a lot of people who are like these characters,” he said with a laugh. “So, it’s fun to be able to play it and do it, but not have to really be it.”

So did Dean catch the “Dancing with the Stars” fever while shaking his hips on the Krysten Ritter-led comedy?

“I got to dance on the show with Karina Smirnoff and she’s pretty amazing and that was fun,” he said, when asked if we’ll see him on the actual “DWTS” dance floor in the near future. “But I don’t know. It’s not a no, it’s not a yes, it’s a maybe.”
