Demi Lovato Leaving Disney Channel’s ‘Sonny With A Chance’ Series

Demi Lovato no longer sees her Disney show, “Sonny With A Chance,” in her forecast.

The teen star, who recently completed a stint in rehab for “emotional and physical issues,” will not return to her hit TV series, a rep for the Disney Channel confirmed to Access Hollywood.

“We respect Demi’s decision to focus full-time on her music and not immediately return to her acting career,” a spokesperson for the Disney Channel said in a statement to Access on Tuesday. “She is a talented young woman and our hearts are with her as she continues to take action to improve her health and bounce back from adversity.”

The 18-year-old actress also confirmed the news to People, noting it was a bittersweet decision.

“It made sense for me to go ahead and leave the show to focus on my music,” Demi told the mag. “It’s kind of sad for me that a chapter of my life has ended but there couldn’t be a better time for me to move on.”

Demi went on to explain that she didn’t feel returning to the set of her long-running show would help her in her attempt to get back on the right track.

“I don’t think going back to ‘Sonny’ would be healthy for my recovery,” she told People. “Being in front of a camera would make me nervous.”

According to Disney Channel, the series will still continue without its leading lady, although it will be reformatted into a sketch comedy series called “So Random!,” which will debut in June.

In early March, Demi broke her silence over her three-month rehab stint (which she completed in January) in a video message to her fans.

“The journey that I’ve been on has been very, very difficult over the past few months. I was dealing with issues that I know, not only girls just my age, but of all ages are dealing with,” Demi said in the online video message at the time, not specifying what issues she dealt with. “People watching this video right now are probably dealing with the issues I had to and I hope to one day raise awareness of everything, so that I can help people too, just like you guys helped me thought this.

“I can’t tell you how much light you guys brought into my life in probably the darkest time of my life,” she continued.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, the former “Camp Rock” star quit the Jonas Brothers tour to enter a treatment facility in late October 2010.

“Demi Lovato left her tour early this weekend in order to seek medical treatment for emotional and physical issues she has dealt with for some time,” the teen’s rep told Access Hollywood in a statement at the time.
