Derek Hough On Julianne Hough’s Blackface Halloween Costume: ‘It Wasn’t The Brightest Moment’

Derek Hough is speaking out about sister Julianne Hough’s Halloween costume from last weekend, where she dressed in blackface up as “Crazy Eyes” from the Netflix series “Orange is the New Black.”

Access Hollywood spoke with the “Dancing with the Stars” pro at Monday’s show about his sister’s headline-making costume choice.

“She’s just unbelievably sorry and apologetic,” Derek said of his 25-year-old sister.

“She didn’t mean anything by it and she just really wants everybody to know how sorry she is,” Derek continued. “Hopefully we can move on.”

Derek conceded that the incident was not one of her better choices.

“Julianne is like the sweetest person on the planet, and it was just, it wasn’t the brightest moment… in her life and hopefully it’s a blip in her life,” he continued. “She’s sorry and apologetic and she just wants people to know that.”

VOTE: Is Julianne Hough’s blackface costume offensive?

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Julianne took to Twitter to apologize after the initial outrage surrounding her Halloween costume choice.

“I am a huge fan of the show ‘Orange is the New Black,’ actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created,” she wrote on Saturday. “It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way.

“I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize,” she added.
