Director Kevin Smith Has Another Incident With An Airline

The skies have been anything but friendly for Kevin Smith.

The “Cop Out” director, who claimed in February he was kicked off a Southwest plane for being a “safety risk” due to his weight, has now taken aim at Virgin America.

Smith claims a Virgin gate agent at New York’s JFK airport wouldn’t let him, or any member of his party – including his wife and a friend, board a flight after they arrived at their gate 10 minutes before departure — but as the doors were being shut.

“As we reached the gate, we saw a man closing the door,” Smith blogged, noting that his friend called to the attendant and notified him there were three more passengers for the flight.

“The man looked at us and continued closing the door,” Smith added.

Smith said he turned his attention to getting his wife’s luggage off the plane, luggage which contained time-sensitive medication.

“She needed to take it eight hours from her last dosage. Rather than put it in her carry-on, she put it in her bag that went under the plane. Since we were gonna be home in six hours, what did it matter? But now? In a world where the next flight wouldn’t get us to our bags/her medication for NINE hours, naturally, I was concerned with getting our bags off the plane,” he wrote. “But [a Virgin attendant] said that wasn’t possible. So did [another Virgin attendant]. They didn’t even TRY to call someone about getting the bags off.”

Smith said the plane didn’t even move, nor was the jetway detached from the plane as he debated with the gate attendants, who he said wouldn’t budge about removing the party’s luggage.

“Our bags could’ve EASILY been removed in the time that the jet remained parked at the gate (or we could’ve been permitted to board),” he wrote.

While he eventually arrived to his destination later than he planned, Smith said Virgin sent him a “lovely, apologetic email, full refund for flight, free tix offer – all before I’ve landed. I appreciate the gesture/effort.”

Despite his airline incident, there was some good news for the airline-fearing director.

“We went through TSA with no issues,” he noted.

A rep for Virgin America did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Access Hollywood.
