Dish Of Salt: Friday TV Dish (One-On-One With ‘Idol’s’ Siobhan Magnus)

This morning, I chatted one-on-one with eliminated “American Idol” contestant Siobhan Magnus, who explained her over-the-top love for the singing group Hanson. (You know, the “MMMBop” guys!) Plus, why my going to the set of Disney Channel’s “Good Luck Charlie” was a familiar experience, my sadness over a canceled TV show and it’s Lady GaGa versus Madonna… sort of. I’ll explain in today’s Dish.

So Long, Siobhan

I’ve been meaning to tell everyone that the best thing (for me) about Siobhan Magnus having been an “American Idol” contestant was now people know how to pronounce the name Siobhan. (Shiv-on) You see – that’s one of my best friends names and for years I’ve watched people struggle with how to pronounce it. Trust me, we have heard it all! My friend told me yesterday that she was getting on an airplane and the gate agent looked at her name and said “Oh, Siobhan. Like the girl on ‘American Idol.” So, bravo Siobhan for helping out my friend!

Of course, the best thing about being on “American Idol” for Siobhan was the exposure. Now maybe she will get the chance to meet her musical idols, Hanson. Yes, our quirky little girl has a major thing for the “MMMBop” trio. “Their music is so inspirational to me because it’s so positive and they’re just good people who write good music,” she told me. “They’re that band that’s always there for me if I need to be in a better mood. If I need to get pumped up for a performance — anything like that, I just know I can turn on Hanson and I’ll feel significantly better.”

She hasn’t met them yet, but I have no doubt she will. They”ll just need to be prepared. “It will be overwhelming and I might embarrass myself! I don’t know. I would probably cry a lot.”

“American Idol” producers if you are reading this – I’m pretty sure if you ask, Hanson might be available for the finale? I’m just saying!

“10 Things” Canceled

OK, I’m sure that I will embarrass myself here by admitting that I love high school TV comedies. So, I was absolutely beyond upset yesterday when word came down that ABC Family had cancelled “10 Things I Hate About You.” The show was a critical favorite, but apparently not earning enough eyeballs to garner a third season. It was based on the film version of “10 Things I Hate About You,” which starred the late Heath Ledger. Although vastly different from the film – it was fun, cute, quirky and had a good social message – it certainly was better than a lot of the shows currently airing. This gets canceled and “The Hills” lives on? What is wrong with the world?

Disney’s “Good Luck”

Well at least the Disney Channel has gotten some eyeballs on its family-friendly show “Good Luck Charlie.” The numbers are fantastic and the show’s star Bridgit Mendler is set to become another Disney darling along the lines of Miley, Selena and Demi.

“It’s so flattering to have been given that title,” Bridgit told me when I chatted with her on set. “I mean, I would like to be my own person within that and I think through the process of going through Disney, you become your own person and you find our own niche and that’s something that they are really good at.”

Like her predecessors, she is a singer but has no plans to put an album out just yet.

“I’ve been working on it a little bit — putting together some of the songs that I have written, but I want to take it slow and make sure that its something thats really me.”

By the way, going to the set took me back to my old stomping grounds. The show shoots on the same set where “The Sharon Osbourne Show” was taped – where I once worked.

Gaga vs Madonna

Now that Kate Gosselin isn’t stinking up the dance floor, “Dancing with the Stars” needs to spice things up. They’ll do that on Monday night with the help of two pop icons. The six remaining dancers will team up in a cha cha challenge. Team Gaga — Pam Anderson & Damian, Cheryl & Chad and Nicole and Derek — will dance to “Telephone.” Meanwhile, Team Madonna — Evan & Anna, Niecy and Louis and Erin and Maks — will dance to “Holiday.” Of course, neither Madonna nor Gaga will actually be there and the songs will probably be sung (as they always are) by the band’s singers – but hey, it’s a good stunt anyway. I mean, I’m writing about it, right?
