Dish Of Salt: Joey, Joely & ‘Lost’ (November 9, 2006)

Dancing Kings –

Whoa! Joey Lawrence’s “Blossom”-ing dance career came to an end last night. I know. Bad pun but hey it works. I have to say that Joey really did carry himself with class and dignity the entire show. No scandals. No drama. Just good clean dancing.

Immediately after the show, I caught a glimpse of Joey with his wife, Chandie, who was fighting back tears. Joey told us he wanted to win this show mainly for her, “She?s just been such a rock for me. I haven?t been home a lot and she has just been such a wonderful mother. She has taken the brunt of the responsibility with Charlie, our daughter. It’s just nothing but real.”

Though he probably won’t remember, I actually used to workout at the same gym as Joey in Encino about ten years ago. I would occasionally have friendly conversations with him and his friends. I was even at his 21st birthday party. Several years ago, he helped me out with some test shows at a talk show I was working on. I got to meet his first wife, Michelle, a couple of times. I had no clue they had divorced and was caught off guard the first time they showed his wife on “Dancing with the Stars.” I was expecting to see Michelle.

This town can be tough on relationships as we see with recent reports of celebrity divorces, Britney and K-Fed, Reese and Ryan and Whitney and Bobby. However, listening to Joey’s interview last night it sounds as if he is in a much more solid place right now with this marriage, “My wife and I have a great, have an amazing marriage and we work very hard for it. In a town where there is a lot of phony baloney business, It’s just great to be able to go home to my little sanctuary and have something real and concrete and something I can count on.”

Mario Lopez told us that one of the three songs he will be dancing to next week is Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke.” He and partner, Karina Smirnoff, will take on a Freestyle dance, the Paso Doble and most likely the Samba.

By the way, Mario and Karina will be out in Hollywood, Saturday, November 18th hosting an event at the Hollywood & Highland ballroom called ‘Day & Night’, featuring food, drink and performances from world class dancers. Mario invites everyone to attend, “It’s an opportunity for the fans of the show and fans of just dance to come out and check it out.” For info go to dancingevents.net.

Joely’s “Nip/Tuck” –

Joely Richardson’s departure from the show will be explained in next week’s episode. As reported in TV Guide this week, she is leaving to deal with some personal family issues. However, contrary to some of her quotes where she said she may never come back, “Nip/Tuck’s” publicist tells us Joely will only be out for four episodes. She will absolutely return next season. Maybe pregnant with Marlo’s baby? Just throwing that out there.

“Lost” & Found –

“Lost” is by far one of my favorite dramas on TV. I don’t quite understand ABC’s decision to take the show off until February especially now because I thought the fall finale cliffhanger was a dud. Pouring rain, gun at Sawyer’s head.. will he pull the trigger? That’s a cliffhanger to keep me hanging for almost three months. “Run?” What the heck is that? Jack grabbing the walkie talkie should have been the beginning of the first episode in February not the end of this one. We already know (or at least have been led to believe) they can’t get off the island. So, why break out of the night’s most intense moment. I don’t get it.

Will “Daybreak” fill the void? I have a preview screener which I’m looking forward to checking out and I’ll let you know next week if it’s worthy of the time slot. Meanwhile, I’ve gotten hooked on “The Nine” which is losing something like half the viewers of “Lost.” At first I was getting a bit frustrated that they weren’t giving us enough teasers about what happened in the bank. This week it got really good. I can’t wait to find out what went on between bank robber Lucas and hostage Lindsay. So, c’mon people. Give it a chance! I need something to get me through the next couple of months!
