“The Real Housewives of New Jersey” are back with some garden state bitchery tonight on Bravo. NBC picks up its first drama for the new TV season, but what’s the connection to ABC’s “Lost”? Another “American Idol” winner hits Broadway.
Plus, the debut of my new daily TV addict segments – “In Case You Missed It” and “Tune In/Tune Out.” What did you miss on TV and what should and shouldn’t you watch tonight? It’s all in today’s Dish.
“Jersey” Girls Return
In tonight’s season two premiere, table flipping Teresa Giudice seems to have tamed her temper – at least for now. Perhaps it’s because she is pregnant with baby number four as the new season unfolds. Meanwhile, Jacqueline Laurita gives birth to her son, Nicholas. Controversial housewife Danielle Staub tries to tame the crazy by seeking help from a priest, while archenemy Dina Manzo embraces her Zen side. I will admit there is not too much over-the-top excitement in this first episode back – but be sure and stick around until the end for a preview of the entire season. This is where the drama unfolds, after another insane fight breaks out — this time the cops are brought in! Bravo, 10 PM.
Of course, last week when I tried to grill the ladies for information about the new season, they were “thick as thieves” in their resolve to tell me nothing! We did have a fun chat though about lots of other juicy stuff. Check out the interview HERE.
Jordin Sparks up Broadway
Yet another “American Idol” contestant is heading to the Great White Way. Season six winner Jordin Sparks will make her Broadway debut in the musical “In The Heights.” She’ll play the role of Nina Rosario for a limited 12-week engagement beginning Thursday, August 19. An entire roster of “Idol” finalists have made their way to Broadway in recent years including Diana DeGarmo (“Hairspray), Constantine Maroulis (“Rock Of Ages”), Fantasia Barrino (“The Color Purple”), Tamyra Gray (“Bombay Dreams), Clay Aiken (“Spamalot”) and both Ace Young and Taylor Hicks (“Grease”). So, perhaps when Simon Cowell snarkily tells a contestant they would do well in musical theater, it’s really not a bad thing?
NBC goes “Undercovers”
NBC has picked up its first new drama series for the 2010/2011 TV season. The show, called “Undercovers,” comes from “Lost” creator JJ Abrams. It’s being called a modern-day take on “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” or TV’s “Hart to Hart.” The series, starring Boris Kodjoe (Showtime’s “Soul Food”), will follow the lives of Steven Bloom and his wife Samantha (British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw), a married couple retired from the CIA who now owns a catering company. Obviously, somehow they get pulled back into the spy game. The pilot was directed by Abrams himself, his first since 2004’s “Lost.” We all know how that turned out. So, this could be promising.
Tune In/ Tune Out
TUNE IN – It’s the team Cha Cha challenge tonight on “Dancing with the Stars.” The final six remaining couples will battle each other to the music of Madonna and Lady Gaga. Pam & Damian, Cheryl & Chad and Derek & Nicole will dance to Gaga’s “Telephone” while Evan & Anna, Niecy & Louie and Erin & Maks tackle Madge’s “Holiday.” ABC, 8 PM.
TUNE OUT – If you are hungry, then I suggest you not turn the channel to TLC tonight. Your stomach may start grumbling if you watch the new six episode series “Best Food Ever,” which highlights some of the tastiest and most expensive foods across the U.S.A. Actor John Goodman narrates the show and the first episode is dubbed “Sensational Sandwiches” and will highlight a $100 Philly cheese-steak made with Kobe beef, lobster, black truffles and an Italian cheese called taleggio cheese. Anyway you slice it, that’s a whole lot of calories! TLC, 9 PM.

In Case You Missed It
After taking a week off from firing one of his celebrity minions (who impressed him last week with some major fundraising dough), Donald Trump was back at it last night on “Celebrity Apprentice.” Trump said, “You’re Fired,” to Olympian Summer Sanders who was the project manager for team Tenacity on a job that required the stars to create three, 30-second radio commercials. This week’s episode was dedicated for the second week in a row to Bret Michaels who remains hospitalized after suffering a brain hemorrhage. Bret is one of six celebrities remaining in the series alongside Cyndi Lauper, Holly Robinson Peete, Curtis Stone, Maria Kanellis and Sharon Osbourne. The finale is set to air May 23 on NBC.
