Dish Of Salt: Thursday TV Round Up

Jenny’s Little Jim
It seems Jenny McCarthy’s seven-year-old son Evan has acting in his sight. “He’s addicted to it,” Jenny told me at a launch party for her new Ubisoft game for Nintendo Wii called “Your Shape”

Evan makes his acting debut in “Santa Baby 2: Christmas Maybe,” starring his mom. He plays an elf in the holiday movie airing December 13 on ABC Family. He has two lines but mom made sure he got a nice long close-up in as well.

And it seems Evan is following along in her beau, Jim Carrey’s footsteps, “He’s looking up to him and he wants to be like him. Evan is a brilliant mimic. I mean brilliant. After watching ‘A Christmas Carol’ Evan looked up at Jim and just went, ‘I hate Christmas. Baah Humbug!’” If acting becomes a full-fledged career for Evan, Jenny says she is ready, “Yeah, I don’t mind as long as he is happy doing whatever he wants to do.”

By the way, Jenny will be traveling to NYC on Monday December 7 to participate in an event to promote “Santa Baby 2.” ABC Family will be attempting to set the Guinness world record for the largest gathering of elves at The Pond at Bryant Park. At least 250 of Santa’s elves will gather and Jenny and her co-star Dean McDermott will be on hand to witness the holiday mayhem.

Rudolph Rules!
“Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer” had a very shiny… performance on CBS last night. The umpteenth showing of the classic stop motion animated tale was the number one show of the night with 10.7 million viewers. It just shows you that a sweet, quality family program can still bring in viewers. I still laugh every time the little elf says, ” I wanna be a dentist!” Everyone must really be in the holiday spirit as NBC’s “Christmas at Rockefeller Center was second with 8.8 million.

“Ugly” Move
Starting January 6 ABC’s “Ugly Betty” moves to Wednesday nights at 10 PM replacing “Eastwick,” which I happened to really like. I’m sad they cancelled that one. Most recently “Betty” had been airing on Friday nights so this is at least a boon for them. I’m a Betty fan and I like the subtle makeover they have given her recently with new glasses, less flashy clothes and better hair, but its time to lose the braces already. I think her teeth are straight enough.

More “Sons”
FX’s critically acclaimed motorcycle gang drama “Sons of Anarchy” has been picked up for a third season the network announced, which will begin airing in September 2010. Tuesday’s 90-minute season two finale was the number one cable show of the night with around 4.3 million viewers.

Jersey Boys… and Girls
I’m guessing it was the success of the Bravo’s “The Real Housewives Of New Jersey” that made MTV think it was a good idea to move forward with their look at the “Jersey Shore.” The show premieres tonight and there is nothing new here in that it’s your typical people living in a house together fighting, hooking up, throwing up and making general fools of themselves. There is, however, some controversy surrounding the show after MTV ran promos touting the show as being, “Full of the hottest, tannest, craziest guidos.” Italian-American groups are none too happy with the use of the term “guido.” Unfortunately, all their anger does is give more publicity to a show that doesn’t deserve it. I’d rather watched “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer” than this train wreck of debauchery.

Seagal Scores!
Never count anyone out in Hollywood, especially when it comes to reality TV. It looks like perennial punchline Steven Seagal has found a new niche. The former action star went back to work in A&E’s original series “Steven Seagal Lawman,” which chronicles his time as a deputy sheriff in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Apparently he has been moonlighting for the past 20 years. Who knew? The show premiered Wednesday night with a record-breaking 3.5 million total viewers, making it the most-watched original series launch in the network’s history among all key demos. This I’ve gotta see.
