Dish Of Salt: Thursday TV Round Up (February 4, 2010)

There was sad news in the soap opera world today as a legendary actress passed away.

Plus, “The Bachelor”s Corrie Adamson reveals her thoughts on whether or not Jake Pavelka found lasting love on the show. And her answer is not at all surprising (at least, not to me).

Sad “Days”

Though I haven’t watched this show in recent years, I had been a “Days of Our Lives” fan since the age of four (when my mom first plopped me in front of the TV to watch with her). I was very sad to hear that the show’s matriarch, Frances Reid, who played Alice Horton on the long-running soap, passed away yesterday. Reid had played the role since 1965. I remember meeting Reid at the 40th Anniversary celebration for the show, in 2005, and you could see what a special lady she was to the entire cast and crew. At the time, she was still working on the show — even at age 90! She last appeared on the show in 2007.

Alison Sweeney, who plays Sami Brady on the show (and also hosts “The Biggest Loser”) Tweeted her condolences. “I’m so sad to hear the news about Frances Reid. She was a truly talented actress and we are all lucky and proud to have known her.”

Meanwhile, Deidre Hall, who worked with Reid for over 30 years playing Dr. Marlena Evans on the show, Tweeted, “She was loved, revered, and will be remembered.”

“Big Love” Books Another Season
With the current season already underway, HBO announced that it has already picked up another season of the Golden Globe and Emmy nominated drama. Season five of the polygamy-centric show about a man with three wives, is set to return next winter for ten episodes. And it means even more good times for the residents of Juniper Creek; ratings for the current season, which began airing January 10, have been better than ever. Plus, Chloe Sevigny just won the Golden Globe for best supporting actress last month.

Brandy’s New Reality
Her gig on “America’s Got Talent” may have only lasted one season, but Brandy is ready to return to reality television. The pop singer has been given an 11-episode order for a non-scripted series built around her family. “Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business,” will focus on the siblings’ careers as well as feature their parents, Sonja and Willie. Sonja, who runs the family’s music production company and manages her kids’ careers, was the original showbiz “mom-ager.” In fact, she might have even coined that term herself during Brandy’s days on the sitcom “Moesha.” Let’s hope the show is better than Ray J’s trashy looking-for-love dating show, “For The Love Of Ray J,” which also aired on VH1.

“The Bachelor’s” Corrie Confesses

This week it was 23-year-old Corrie Adamson who was sent home by “The Bachelor’s” Jake Pavelka. He’s down to his final four – Ali, Vienna, Gia and Tenley. In a conference call with reporters this morning, Corrie revealed she thinks Jake’s chances for finding a wife out of this experience are not good. “I, in a way, didn’t see him with anyone long term… in all honestly,” she said on the call. “I do think that he, Ali, and Vienna all had a strong connection. I think that Tenley is a really great girl and he’d be lucky to have her. I love Gia to death, she was one of my good friends, but I don’t see her and Jake together at all.”

Corrie did say it’s her belief that confessing to Jake that she was a virgin may have been part of the reason why she was sent home. “I feel like… in Jake’s head a little bit, maybe he associated that with me being young and not having life experience,” she said. “That has nothing to do with my age. If I was Jake’s age and still single, I would still be a virgin. I think it takes a lot more maturity to put that off.”

Later, in the call, she addressed the Internet spoiler by Reality Steve www.realitysteve.com that Vienna would be Jake’s final choice. “You know, they had a strong connection and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that. I will be surprised if they last.”

And this wardrobe consultant has one last piece of advice for Jake. “There was just one thing I noticed. His cotton pants were just a quarter of an inch too short.”

Ouch!

Meanwhile “The Bachelorette’s” Jillian Harris has a new gig. She will be using her skills as an interior designer in an upcoming episode of ABC’s ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” set to air later this season.
