‘Divergent’ Series Retitles Final Two Films

Has the “Divergent” series found a new Faction?

The final two films in the dystopian franchise have dropped “Part 1” and “Part 2” from their titles and will now be called “The Divergent Series: Allegiant” and “The Divergent Series: Ascendant,” MTV reported on Thursday.

Both movies still draw from Veronica Roth’s “Allegiant,” the last novel in her smash young adult trilogy. Shailene Woodley stars in the adaptations as Beatrice Prior, a gifted young woman who discovers she’s part of a ruthless experiment to heal post-apocalyptic Earth.

The author weighed in on whether the movies’ new names could indicate any narrative tweaks.

“What does this mean? Well, basically, it means there are going to be some changes, but it’s really too early to know exactly what those changes will be or the extent of them,” she posted to Tumblr following the news. “I know changes always make fans of the books — and the author! — nervous, but hopefully the characters we know (and love. Or sometimes love to hate?) will still be intact, which is really the important thing. I am eager to see how these movies turn out, along with you guys.”

In addition to the films’ revamped titles, Lionsgate also shared their updated logos and taglines on Thursday. “Allegiant” urges audiences to “Break The Boundaries Of Your World,” while “Ascendant” teases that “The End Is Never What You Expect.”

The franchise’s sophomore installment, “Insurgent,” has grossed nearly $300 million worldwide since its release in March.

“The Divergent Series: Allegiance” hits theaters on March 18, 2016, and “Ascendant” will round out the series on March 24, 2017.
