DNA Test Dispels Paternity Claims Against Chris Rock

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 6, 2007) – Chris Rock is not the father of a 13-year-old boy, the actor confirmed in a statement released earlier today.

A Georgia-based woman, Kali Bowyer, had been accusing the actor/comedian of fathering her son, a teenager, who suffers from seizures. She had originally attempted to file a paternity suit against Rock in March.

Bowyer had to withdraw her suit after officials in Bulloch County Superior Court told her the matter was outside their jurisdiction because Rock is based out of another state.

In April however, Rock filed papers in the woman’s county to determine if he was the child’s father.

According to a statement, released by the actor and his wife Malaak earlier today, DNA ruled out Rock as the father of the boy.

“Though we prefer to keep our private life out of the media, we feel that it is necessary to respond to the many grossly inaccurate media reports that were sold to the tabloids by Kali Bowyer who falsely claimed that Chris Rock fathered her 13 year-old son,” the couple’s statement began. “After multiple lies, including that Chris refused to establish paternity and after finding out that Ms. Bowyer has an extensive criminal record, we personally asked the court to help us establish paternity so that we could put this harassment to rest.

“Last week it was concluded through DNA testing that Chris is not the father of Ms. Bowyer’s son. We have spent a tremendous sum to litigate this case and are asking our attorney to pursue all legal remedies against her,” the statement continued.

Rock and his wife have suggested Bowyer to turn over funds she earned from magazines to charity.

“Additionally, we would like for any monies Ms. Bowyer has taken from the tabloid media based on this false story to be donated to Bulloch County, GA charities for the benefit of disadvantaged boys and girls. We also express our deepest prayers for the welfare of Ms. Bowyer’s son who has been continuously embarrassed and exposed in the media by his mother.”

The couple signed off their statement saying, “We are happy that this has come to an end.”
