“Downton Abbey’s” cast and crew are entering their final week of filming the beloved Masterpiece on PBS franchise, and the tears are flowing.
Elizabeth McGovern (Lady Cora) appears to have already wrapped on the show, judging by her Tweet on Saturday.
“#LastDaysofDownton. Literally . My last. #tears. #tears #tears,” she wrote to accompany a pic of her hugging one of her castmates (it appears to be Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith).

Allen Leech, who is returning for the final season as her son-in-law, Tom Branson (though it is unclear for how many episodes), is also in the pic.

Elizabeth also posted a photo showing her on set with her “Downton” TV hubby, co-star Hugh Bonneville (Robert).

Last week, cast members from the show, including Laura and Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary), made their final appearance at the Television Critics Association Summer Tour in Beverly Hills and they told Access Hollywood about their emotional last day of shooting at Highclere Castle in Hampshire, England.
“Laura Carmichael, she had finished her scenes for the day, but she stuck around for like the final moment and it was like, the minute the director yelled, ‘Cut!’ it was like it wasn’t our house any more, and I kind of – it just felt so weird,” Michelle told Access Hollywood.
After shooting that final scene on location at Highclere, Michelle and Laura stuck around for one last look around.

“She took my hand and she said, ‘Let’s walk through the rooms,’ and we went through the library, through the drawing room, and then we walked out on to the lawn and we went and sat on Matthew’s bench and the two of us were just in pieces,” Michelle said of their emotions. “And it just felt so strange that it just was — we’re sort of giving it back really to Lord and Lady Carnarvon, you know, we’d invaded their house for the past six years. So that was when it kind of really hit home, like this is coming to an end. So since then, it’s been the last days of ‘Downton’ and we’ve been posting pictures and it’s just been, yeah, it’s felt very, very strange.”
The cast will shoot the show’s final scenes inside a studio.
“Downton Abbey” returns for its sixth and final season January 3 on Masterpiece on PBS.
