Downton Abbey Season 4 Trailer Released, Teases Mourning Lady Mary

The first full trailer for “Downton Abbey” Season 4 was released on Saturday after a 10-second teaser debuted last week.

The clip opens with the Dowager Countess of Grantham (Maggie Smith) counseling grieving granddaughter Lady Mary Crawley (Michelle Dockery).

“You have a straightforward choice – you must choose either death or life,” the Countess says in the trailer.

“And you think I should choose life?” Lady Mary replies, as a montage of quick-cut scenes begins to play.

The trailer is set to a very modern song – “Wolf’s Law” by Welsh alternative rock band The Joy Formidable, released earlier this year.

Featured in the trailer is Gary Carr as jazz singer Jack Ross, the show’s first recurring black character.

“Downton Abbey” returns to the U.S. with its Season 4 premiere on January 5, 2014.
