Downton Abbey Star Cast As Disney’s New Cinderella

A “Downton Abbey” darling is joining the Disney ranks as Cinderella.

Lily James, who appeared in PBS Masterpiece series “Downton Abbey” last season, has been cast as the famed fairy tale character in the live-action film, the studio announced on Tuesday.

Sir Kenneth Branagh (also a Masterpiece PBS star) is directing the film.

Cate Blanchett is playing Cinderella’s evil step mother.

With her curly hair and penchant for 1920s-style clubbing and unsuitable men, Lily’s character Lady Rose MacClare, caused trouble for her family in “Downton” Season 3.

She was brought on to the show not long after the youngest member of the Crawley family — Lady Sybil — died after giving birth to her first child.

Lily will also appear in “Downton’s” fourth season.
