Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, looked every inch the St. Patrick’s Day reveler as she paid a royal visit to the Irish Guards on Saturday.
Sporting a dark green coat with a gold shamrock-shaped brooch, the 30-year-old beauty handed out sprigs of shamrocks to members of the 1st Battalion Irish Guards – including their canine mascot, an Irish wolfhound – during the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Aldershot, England.
The Duchess later sipped sherry with the Guards in the mess hall.
The traditional presentation of shamrocks to the soldiers dates back to the early 1900s and used to be performed by the Queen Mother (Prince William’s great-grandmother) prior to her death in 2002. The tradition was then carried out by Princess Anne, and will now be performed by Kate.
The visit marks Kate’s first solo military engagement.
