Emma Stone is reportedly about to go from “Superbad” to a superhero leading lady.
The “Easy A” beauty will be offered the role of Mary Jane Watson in Sony’s latest big screen installment of “Spider-Man,” according to Deadline Hollywood and Entertainment Weekly.
She would step into the role previously played by Kirsten Dunst in the franchise’s first three films.
In July, Sony announced that Andrew Garfield (who also stars in this weekend’s box office champ, “The Social Network”) would take over from Tobey Maguire as Hollywood’s favorite web slinger.
It would mark the latest box office role for the 21-year-old Emma. After starring in films, including “Superbad,” “The Rocker,” “The House Bunny” and “Zombieland,” her new teen comedy, “Easy A,” has hauled in more than $42 million at the box office (also for Sony).
Emma recently wrapped production on the romantic comedy “Friends with Benefits,” co-starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. She is currently filming the period drama “The Help,” based on Kathryn Stockett’s bestseller of the same name.
She is also reportedly being eyed for the “21 Jump Street” big screen reboot of the ‘80’s television series, which could potentially reunite her with “Superbad” co-star Jonah Hill, who is writing the script.
When contacted by Access Hollywood, a spokesperson for Sony had no comment on the “Spider-Man” casting news.
