Elton John Talks Baby Zachary & Songs He Sings To His Son

Fatherhood has cast a spell on Elton John!

Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson caught up the singer and new dad at the junket for his new kids animated film “Gnomeo & Juliet,” which he and partner David Furnish produced, and for which Elton also composed music. The singer gave Shaun an update on how life is going as a new father.

“We can’t really believe our luck. He’s four weeks old today,” Elton said of son Zachary, born via a surrogate mother on Christmas Day. “It’s been the most enchanting thing that’s ever happened to us.”

The 62-year-old new dad said his new bundle of joy isn’t tiring him out just yet.

“It’s been very relaxing, funny enough, because you know when kids are young and that age, just have to make sure they’re fed, they’re changed, they’re bathed and they’re winded,” he explained. “That’s kind of like the four main things. And obviously the tactile, holding, and love, and caressing and talking to him and singing to them. They’re a blank canvas at this age and it’s just been the most wonderful thing.”

Having a musical legend as a dad comes with its perks when it’s time for a lullaby.

“I don’t really sing any of my songs to him… maybe ‘Blessed,’ I sing that song. Actually, I (also) sing a song called ‘The Greatest Discovery,’ which is from 1970… I’ve been singing that recently,” Elton told Shaun. “It’s about the birth of a new baby and I was singing it before he arrived and I was getting very emotional as I sang it. And I thought, ‘People don’t’ know what’s going on and I’m singing this song.’”
