Elvis’ Stolen Gun Gets The Royal Flush

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (August 21, 2007) — A handgun that once belonged to Elvis Presley was stolen from an exhibit at Graceland…and was recovered in a most “ungraceful” place.

The 9 mm Smith & Wesson pistol was brought to police yesterday, by a man who had spotted it in a portable toilet!

The gun was stolen in the midst of Elvis Week, commemorating the 30th anniversary of Presley’s death.

Surveillance video showed a man taking the gun from a display case at the “Elvis After Dark” exhibit on Tuesday, August 14.

Travis Brookins was cleaning the public toilets behind the exhibit hall on Thursday, the Associated Press reports, when he discovered the gun in the muck.

Having no idea that the gun had been stolen, he brought it home to clean it…but then he saw media reports about the missing weapon.

“Brookins called us and said he thinks he had the gun and brought it to us,” Memphis police Lt. Jerry Gwyn told the AP, adding that the thief was believed to have dropped it in the toilet accidentally.

“Of course, whoever dropped it wouldn’t go in there,” he said.

The gun-swiping port-o-potty bandit is apparently still at large.
