Eric Stonestreet Talks ‘Modern Family’ Gay Kiss & Upcoming Bike Shorts Episode

Emmy Award winner and “Modern Family” star Eric Stonestreet said last week’s gay kiss took place with little fanfare – despite the recent Facebook campaign to get Cam and Mitchell to smooch.

“The vibe was happening and hot! Are you kidding me, we were making out over there,” Eric joked with Kit Hoover and Billy Bush when he stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Wednesday.

“We were happy that people cared so much about that element of the show,” he continued. “It just means they care about the characters which is awesome.”

Despite online cries for a kiss with co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric explained that the episode had been in the works for some time.

“We didn’t really think that much about it,” he told Kit and Billy, explaining that there’s another surprise in store for their fans.

“The episode that’s on next week is me in bike shorts, and that episode has been [in the works],” Eric said.

Keeping up his prankster nature – he started his career as a professional clown and attended clown college – Eric added a few props to his skin tight costume while filming.

“I got Julie [Bowen] so good, every take I would come out with something different in my pants,” he said with a laugh.

As for any future Facebook campaigns that may target the hit ABC comedy, Eric thinks his on-screen daughter is next.

“I joke around that there is going to be a Facebook campaign to let Lily talk!” the actor added.

“Modern Family” airs Wednesday nights on ABC at 9 PM. This week’s episode features guest star Nathan Lane.
