Eva Mendes On Motherhood: ‘I’m Exhausted,’ It’s The ‘Best’

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling welcomed daughter Esmerelda eight weeks ago, and like most new moms, Eva is now sleep-deprived.

When asked during an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” if the baby is sleeping through the night yet, the actress exclaimed, “No!”

“No, God no… She’s two months!” the 40-year-old beauty told Ellen, in an interview which will air on Wednesday. “You know we’re getting the hang of it, the sleeping thing. But yeah, I’m exhausted and it’s the best.”

Eva said she has a whole new understanding of the word “tired.”

“Really, I’m so incredibly tired,” she said. “I thought I was tired before at times, but no. Nothing like this, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

The actress was able to keep her pregnancy a secret until mere weeks before giving birth – something she and Ryan worked hard to achieve.

“I think just early on, we decided it’s going to be very hard for [Esmerelda] to have privacy,” she explained. “And we thought this is the first opportunity we can give her to protect her and so then I had a nice calm pregnancy.”

As for getting back to her pre-baby body, Eva’s not stressing about slimming down immediately.

“Yeah, the whole bounce back thing. I’m like… Oh gosh. Ease up. It’s OK. We don’t have to,’ you know?” she said. “I mean, eventually maybe, but certainly not in a couple weeks.”

So far, breastfeeding has helped Eva shed a bit of baby weight.

“It really does help to shrink your uterus back to normal size. It does!” she said. “I know it’s a really weird thing to say, but it does.”
