Fabulous Fitting Jeans For Fall (Glam Slam)

Denim is always in style, but with fall definitely in full swing, having a great pair of jeans is a fashion must.

Plenty of folks have found their favorite pair of jeans, only to find that after wearing them for a while, they get a little saggy in spots. But, DL1961 is a premium denim brand aiming to eliminate that very problem.

“[DL1961] is a New York City based premium denim line that is based on two revolutionary fabrics — DLX and dlpro,” Sarah Ahmed, creative director of the brand, told Glam Slam when we checked out DL1961’s latest styles earlier this week in Los Angeles. “What those fancy words basically mean is that your jeans never sag, bag or lose shape.

“Our jeans stretch, but they also have retention,” Sarah added. “They’re made for people with 24/7 lifestyles who need to go from the plane to the boardroom and then beyond.”

The company developed the fabric themselves, but collaborated with Invista, which makes Lycra, and a company called Lenzing, which makes fibers.

“We did partnerships with them and developed the denim, like from scratch, so from the spinning… to the final washing and the finishing, we do everything in house,” Sarah explained.

Well-fitting jeans are a must, but so is a great style and Sarah told Glam Slam about some of trends to look out for this season.

“The motorcycle trend is big,” she said, noting that DL1961 does their moto look with detailing that looks “flattering on every body type.”

“Leather is huge,” Sarah also noted. “We’ve interpreted leather several different ways. We’ve done it in brushed suedes, in metallics, and with some motorcycle detailing and then basic blue. Who doesn’t love a great pair of blue jeans that takes you from day to night, that you can wear with anything from silk blouses to tank tops and other jackets.”

Outside of trends, the brand’s most popular styles of jeans are “Emma” and “Angel.”

“And there’s a reason why,” Sarah said of the jean cuts. “They’re universally flattering because they’re pegged at your ankle. They fit anyone from a curvy girl whose 5’2” to… like a tall boyish figure. So we have that covered in one jean. The rise is a mid-rise; it flatters many body types; it’s got the right coverage and one’s a straight leg and one’s a super skinny.”

At just 24, Sarah is a young creative director, but the Parsons graduate has helped grow the brand, which is now in 1,500 stores worldwide.

And it also is a hit with celebrities. Most recently Sarah said the stylish Olivia Munn sported one of their pairs.

“She rocked a whole DL look, actually, from head to toe, rushing into a cab,” Sarah told Glam Slam. “We love to see people in our denim like that, because that’s what it’s made for, running around New York City.”
