Falling Skies: Robert Sean Leonard Dishes On His Eccentric Dr. Roger Kadar

“House’s” Robert Sean Leonard popped up in the recent “Falling Skies” Season 3 premiere as mad scientist and underground dweller Dr. Roger Kadar, and although he didn’t appear in last Sunday’s episode, fear not fans — he will be back again.

“He’s fantastic,” the actor said of his character when TNT flew AccessHollywood.com up to the Vancouver set last fall. “He lives underground. Essentially, he’s given up, I think, on life. He keeps to himself, he’s wickedly smart, but hypo-allergic to other people and anything above ground.”

As for why his character has such a fear of leaving his little hovel to head above ground, Robert said fans may not figure that one out this season.

“I don’t know,” he said. “You may never find out what happened. I believe that something traumatic happened and he’s done. He’s just done.”

Robert’s own theory? That Roger lost his family.

“I believe something terrible happened to his children and to his wife and I think he is a little bit crazy,” he said.

While his first appearance showed Roger to be a recluse, Robert said his character will be dragged into the fray by Noah Wylie’s Tom Mason.

“He cares about Noah’s character and he wants to help, but I honestly think he’s done. I think he likes his puzzles and living in his head, and if solving puzzles helps Noah and the people that he’s working with, that’s good,” Robert said. “Obviously, Noah’s character slowly drags him a little more into the sun and into being with other people.”

Robert, who played Dr. James Wilson on “House” until the show took its final bow in 2012, wasn’t looking to join another series when the opportunity to appear in “Falling Skies” came around, but he couldn’t say no to his friend and series lead, Noah.

“Noah called and it was a role that intrigued me,” Robert said of why he joined the cast as a guest star in Season 3. “I love Vancouver and it was a job that really made sense for me. … I honestly just thought it would be fun to work with Noah. And I watched Season 1. I thought it was really fun, it’s a really fun show, it’s really well done. It looks like a movie to me.”

“Falling Skies” continues Season 3 on Sunday night at 10 ET/PT on TNT.
