Family Of Millennium Series Author Stieg Larsson To Speak About Existence Of Fourth Book

The father and brother of late Swedish author Stieg Larsson will appear on “CBS News Sunday Morning” to reveal that the highly anticipated fourth book in the novelist’s Millennium Series indeed exists, and, it’s actually the fifth book.

Larsson, whose best-selling books include “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “The Girl Who Played with Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest,” passed away in 2004 at the age of 50, before finishing what he had originally envisioned to be a 10-book series.

Now, the author’s father, Erland Larsson, tells CBS that a fourth manuscript does indeed exist, and that he has seen and held it.

“I got the e-mail from Stieg 10 days before he died where he wrote book number four is nearly finished,” Larsson’s brother, Joakim, says in the Sunday interview, according to a CBS News press release. “And to make it more complicated, this book number four, [is] book number five, because he thought that [it] was more fun to write than book number four.”

Larsson reportedly had little contact with his father and brother at the time of his death and he assumed that the rights to the books (and the ensuing millions) would be passed to the author’s girlfriend of 32 years, Eva Gabrielsson. The fortune was instead passed to the family (because the pair never legally married), but a manuscript for the fourth novel was reportedly found on Larsson’s laptop – which was in the possession of Gabrielsson – which begs the question, how has the author’s father “seen” and “held it”?

Paul Bogaards, executive director of public relations at Knopf (Larsson’s publisher) is curious to hear what the late author’s relatives will reveal on Sunday.

“I’m as curious as the rest of the world,” Paul told The Los Angeles Times on Thursday. “It’s a subject of much speculation among Larsson readers. At some point, one hopes that there is a finality to the question about the fourth book.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, “The Social Network’s” Rooney Mara will star alongside Daniel Craig and Christopher Plummer in the upcoming American film adaptation of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” The film is being directed David Fincher (who was nominated for a Best Achievement in Directing Oscar for 2008’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” and most recently helmed “The Social Network”), and is expected to hit theaters on December 21, 2011.
