Most new authors are lucky if they can get a dozen people to attend a reading. E L James is being greeted in Miami by the hundreds.
The author of “Fifty Shades of Grey” kicked off her U.S. book tour Sunday. She signed copies in the morning and will participate in a conversation about the erotic novel before a sold-out crowd at the historic Biltmore Hotel in the evening.
James has snagged a seven-figure contract with Vintage Books, and Universal has purchased rights to the film.
The book tells the story of an unworldly college student who begins an unusual romantic relationship with a wealthy young businessman. The book has been called “mommy porn” for its sexual content and female following — though men are lining up for autographs, too.
