Fifty Shades Of Grey: Garrett Hedlund, Ian Somerhalder Out

The search for the S&M-loving lead in “Fifty Shades of Grey” continues!

According to Us Weekly, Garrett Hedlund has passed on the big screen adaptation of E L James’ “mommy porn” bestseller.

According to the mag, the 28-year-old “Tron: Legacy” star did want to do three movies where he’d star as sexy billionaire Christian Grey.

“Doing a possible trilogy was too big a commitment,” a source told the mag. “And producers wouldn’t let him do just one film.”
“Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder, who has been very vocal about his desire to play Christian, is also reportedly not in the running. The mag reported that during her appearance at Comic-Con, James was heard telling people, “the part won’t go to Ian.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, “Arrow” star Stephen Amell told Access that he’s not interested in playing bondage aficionado playboy.

“I didn’t find [Christian’s] character to be totally redeeming,” the actor told Access in June. “And I actually didn’t find him to be that interesting.”

The 32-year-old star clarified his distaste for the BDSM lead, saying it had nothing to with the book’s graphic sex – he was just bored with Christian as a character.

“This is not a criticism on this particular piece of literature, this is simply, you know, I like to play roles that I find interesting. Jason on ‘Hung’ was a prostitute, but he was kind of an interesting prostitute!” he explained with a laugh. “Nothing about Christian Grey really spoke to me.”

The only player tied to the project is director Sam Taylor-Johnson, who signed on to the helm the project in June.
