Foo Fighters & Gary Clark Jr. Rock The Forum To Close Out LA Tour

Fans buy tickets to a Foo Fighters concert with the sole intention of rocking out.

So when it was announced last year that Gary Clark Jr. was planning to be the opening act, there was even more incentive to run out and experience a performance from their current world tour — and what a show it was. The bands closed out their two-night visit to LA on Tuesday at the Forum and had the crowd on their feet for the entire concert.

This is no doubt thanks to guitar master, singer, and songwriter Gary Clark Jr. setting the tone for night. The Grammy Award winner shook the Forum with his electrifying guitar riffs and insane vocals, only to return later as one of the night’s surprise guests to perform “What Did I Do?/God As My Witness” from the Foo Fighters’ “Sonic Highways” album. The tour links up nicely with Clark’s recently released full-length worldwide album, The Story of Sonny Boy Slim, which has received a lot of critical acclaim.

The Foo Fighters, who are celebrating 20 years together, had the stadium in a roar as they opened with “Everlong,” which had actually been the closing track the night before. Even with a broken leg, frontman Dave Grohl was able to jam hard thanks to a mobile throne that had been custom made for this tour. Grohl and the band — Taylor Hawkins, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Nate Mendel — didn’t skip a beat and performed tracks past and present for two hours straight. The fans couldn’t have been more grateful and were singing and air drumming through it all.

Monday night’s opening show garnered a lot of press attention when Jack Black, Stevie Nicks and Haim showed up on stage. How can you top that? Well, you can’t. I mean, Stevie Nicks?! That said, Tuesday’s show was certainly a treat for rock fans as Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell joined the band to perform “Been Caught Stealing” and “Had A Dad” after bassist Chris Chaney jammed along with Grohl and company on “Cold Day In The Sun.” The Foo Fighters left nothing behind and delivered a performance so spectacular, that the guest appearances were really only icing on the cake.
