Former Brat Packer Andrew McCarthy On ‘Gossip Girl’ Cast: ‘They Are Much More Savvy’

Andrew McCarthy made thousands of girls swoon as a Brat Pack star in the ‘80s, but the actor, now 47, said the cast of “Gossip Girl” is far more advanced than his own bunch.

“They are much more savvy then we were,” Andrew, who is set to direct an episode of “Gossip Girl,” told People of The CW cast. “We were just a bunch of dumb kids running around.”

The actor, whose ‘80s credits include “Pretty In Pink” opposite Molly Ringwald and “St. Elmo’s Fire” with Rob Lowe, Demi Moore and Emilio Estevez, is gearing up to direct a “Gossip Girl” episode set to air this spring. But Andrew offered only a few hints about the episode he’s helming.

“We have a nice episode, all sorts of juicy little things happen — the normal ‘Gossip Girl’ juicy things,” he said.

“I can’t give you much,” he added. “Except, there is a ‘Nine ½ Weeks’ kind of thing going on in one story line.”

“Nine ½ Weeks,” which starred Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke, and was released in 1986 followed the erotic story of a wealthy businessman who seduced a divorced art assistant.
