FOX Extends ‘American Idol’ Results Show

LOS ANGELES (March 27, 2007) — Tired of watching the “American Idol” results show cut off before the booted contestant takes the stage?

FOX feels your pain? and now they’re doing something about it.

The network has decided to expand the results show on Wednesday nights from a half-hour to an hour beginning next month, according to Variety.

Starting April 11, the one-hour results extravaganza will air at 9 p.m., as well as on April 18, April 25 and May 2.

According to Variety, FOX made the change at the request of “Idol” producers, who have been looking for ways to get more content into the results shows.

Exec producer Nigel Lythgoe last week told Variety that it was tough to cram the “Idol” numbers, guest performances and actual results into the show’s 22-minute window.

“I love the results show because that’s when we really get to produce,” Lythgoe told Variety. “There’s so much content there, it’s not just about who’s going home. You’re frequently promising a star like Diana Ross that you’ll give her time to perform and talk about her tour and album.”

To make room for more “Idol,” FOX has decided to wrap early on “Til Death” (which had been occupying the 9:30 slot) by airing a one-hour season finale at 8 p.m. on April 11.

“Bones” will then return to its usual 8 p.m. time slot the following week.
