Fox Working To Bring Young Bruce Wayne To TV In Gotham

Fox is working on bringing “Gotham” to television, a show that would introduce a very different version of Bruce Wayne on the small screen.

“Batman’s in it — young Bruce Wayne. This is an origin story,” Fox Chairman of Entertainment Kevin Reilly explained on Monday at the Fox portion of the Television Critics Association Winter Tour in Pasadena.

Reilly revealed the young Bruce might actually come to screen as a pre-teen.

“We’re playing with that with casting now. He’s a young boy, but my guess would be he’d be somewhere around 12,” he said.

More than Bruce Wayne, the show would also look at many of the “Batman” characters during their formative days.

“This is what I love about it. This is not like some of the things where you’ve bought a franchise but then you have a bunch of characters no one’s ever heard of, or an offshoot that we sort of make up. This is all of the classic ‘Batman’ characters, with a young Bruce Wayne, with a Detective Gordon before he’s Commissioner Gordon, with the Penguin, the Riddler, the Joker,” the exec explained. “All of those characters are going to arc and become who they are, what events led up to these characters becoming who they are such as Catwoman, as Gotham is teetering on the edge.

“I’ve read the script,” he continued. “It’s really good. So it’s going to be this operatic soap that has a slightly larger than life quality, and we will arc a young Bruce Wayne from a child into the final episode of the series, when he will put on the cape.”
