FROM THE NEWS DESK: The Bahama Baby & Imus’ Enough Button

By George Larrimore and McKay Heim

NEARING THE END? Word from the Bahamas today from our Intrepid Team of Tony Potts and producer Buddy Singer that Larry Birkhead and Virgie Arthur will meet one-on-one, sans lawyers, over the weekend and attempt to work out their differences. Recently she said she wants “be a grandmother” but she’s also said she wants some custody of Little Dannielynn. We’re betting they come out sharing hugs. Larry, after all, holds most of the cards. And Howard Stern is acting toward Larry like the guy who’s trying to get along with his ex wife’s new husband. It may signal the end, at least of this phase, of the Anna Nicole Saga.

BUT IT’S NOT OVER: And even if a Bahamian court rules that there’s nothing fishy about son Daniel’s death, there are still questions that need to be answered by Anna’s doctors about what she was taking and why.

Up To The Minute: Larry Birkhead

THE BIG PICTURE: Also in the Bahamas this weekend, Larry will be with the baby and we hear there will be cameras present to capture the moment for the first time. That picture is worth a pile of money. Count on it; we will have some details to share with you on Access Hollywood on Monday.

THE TIPPING POINT? The insightful Tim Rutten (Regarding Media, The Los Angeles Times)made a good point in today’s edition that, of course, lots of people say reprehensible stuff on radio all the time but that Imus (a) picked the wrong target in the Women of Rutgers Basketball (who had just finished competing for the National Title) and the wrong time. Tim notes that he pushed society’s Enough Button. As in, OK, that’s enough. That’s also in our collective history. Remember, America tolerated Eugene McCarthy’s highly destructive Communist witch-hunts in the ?50s until everybody Had Enough. And one last point and enough of Imus, already: he was an easy mark. He was not some hot, young personality on the rise. He had been around a long, long time. He was expendable.

HOT STARS: Shia LaBeouf has just been anointed the Hot Young Star of the moment with his casting today in the fourth Indiana Jones movie. Stick the words “much anticipated” in their too, why don’t you. Looks like Shia (and that is his real name) will reportedly play Indy’s son. Here are some fun facts: His name rhymes with “hiya.” His grandfather was a comedian, he plays the drums, and he would like to go to Yale in the fall. And he wears a size 11 shoe. And check out Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Scott Frank’s really excellent movie ‘The Lookout.? This is the young man from the comedy series ?3rd Rock From The Sun? and he has that thing that Hollywood loves.

OUR FAVORITE STORIES: Of the day… Sad news for T-Rex’s everywhere. Scientists who study such things have now concluded that the small-armed, big-headed killer Tyrannosaurus Rex is a long ago antecedent of the chicken. The chicken. That’s a real hit to a hard earned image. And a Sign of the Apocalypse; The Hard Rock theme park under construction in South Carolina will have a Led Zeppelin theme.
