‘Game Of Thrones’: Pedro Pascal Hits Comic-Con, Talks Fan Reaction To Oberyn’s Bloody Exit

“Game of Thrones” alum Pedro Pascal touched down at Comic-Con on Thursday night, where he was greeted like a rock star.

The actor hit the Wired Cafe at the Omni Hotel to participate in a ceremonial tapping of Valar Morghulis, the latest in the Brewery Ommegang and HBO’s “GoT” inspired brews.

“I just got here,” Pedro told Access. “I’m starting to feel a little bit like a rock star. I was pouring some new beer, Valar Morghulis, from the tap and people were cheering, so it really doesn’t get much better than that. I’m pouring beer, people are cheering.”

One of the reasons people were so excited to see the “GoT” actor is because of how much fans were invested in Prince Oberyn Martell, who met a tragic end in Season 4. Addressing the reaction to his infamous exit at the hands of Ser Gregor Clegane/The Mountain, Pedro told Access he was touched by the fan response.

“It was really gratifying to see that people were upset. You don’t know what effect the character is going to have. He is sort of like briefly introduced, he’s got a big in and a really big out and I knew that the barometer of that would be how they felt when they saw me die — and people cared,” Pedro said. “And so I think that means everybody did their jobs. I was really sad to see myself go, but relieved that it had an impact.”

Oberyn’s death prompted a slew of Internet memes and the actor told Access he saw quite a few of them.

“I’ve seen the Excedrin one. … I think one of my favorites — there’s like a chicken standing outside of some sort of like chicken tender place and he’s screaming [Oberyn’s line], ‘You killed my sister. You raped her, you murdered her. You killed her children.’ I thought that one was pretty funny,” the actor said.

“Game of Thrones” is up for best drama at this year’s Emmy awards, but the actor won’t be able to attend alongside his cast due to obligations on his new Netflix series, “Narcos.”

“It’s about a U.S. mission to capture and kill Pablo Escobar, and we’ll be shooting out of town, so I won’t be around unfortunately, but I’m so happy for everybody,” Pedro said of the show’s 19 Emmy nominations.
