HBO’s “Game of Thrones” may be based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series of novels, but the actors of the show are tight-lipped about what’s coming to the HBO drama, and AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman found out why.
“There’s a ‘say nothing’ boot camp that they all go to,” Executive Producer D.B. Weiss joked with Laura on the red carpet at the “Game of Thrones” premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood last week.
Even the producers themselves are good at keeping the drama’s details under wraps.
Asked by Laura what they wanted to tease about Season 3, Executive Producer David Benioff said fans should take hints from the promo clips.
“Watch those beautiful trailers, but seriously, this is the one that we’ve been looking forward to for so long because when we read the books, even before we pitched it to HBO, long before we knew it’d be a series, we got to the third book and started calling each other [with] this feverish panic, because we just thought, if we can get this far — there’s so many of our favorite scenes from the whole saga… in this season coming up,” David told Laura.
He admitted, though, that Season 3 presented some challenges – logistically and emotionally.
“It was a tough one to shoot. I mean, we shot in five different countries and some of the scenes were so emotional that we had our crew — and this is a tough, Northern Irish crew, you know — crying on set,” he continued. “But it was all worth it. We’re so happy with the way it turned out.”

Still avoiding specifics, D.B. said he is hoping for some very happy viewers.
“I think that by the time they get to the end of Season 3, our hope is that they will be very satisfied and thrilled and dismayed in equal parts,” D.B. told Laura.

“Or, hopefully, wishing that there were more episodes,” David chimed in. “Ideally, we get to the end of the season and there’s kind of a, ‘Why couldn’t they have done 12 episodes?’ Or, ‘Why does it have to be so short?’ But, we would be dead if we actually shot 12 episodes, so I’m glad we don’t.”
“Game of Thrones” returns with the premiere of Season 3 on Sunday night at 9 PM on HBO.
