‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 5 IMAX Sneak Peek Trailer: 5 Things That Have Our Minds Racing!

On Thursday night, “Game of Thrones” fans who hit IMAX theaters for a special screening of Season 4’s final two episodes, got to see an exclusive teaser for Season 5.

Soundtracked to a version of “Heroes,” the David Bowie song, the clip featured several characters making bold statements, and lots of reveals about the new season, including a possible tagline — “Justice has a price.”

Here’s five things that have our minds racing after seeing the trailer (watching “Thrones” episodes on IMAX was pretty spectacular too!):

Lord Varys has plans for Tyrion… and someone else!

The teaser gave us our first sneak peek at Tyrion since his journey away from King’s Landing at the end of Season 4 (when he killed his father and ex-lover Shae). With a full beard, and slightly worse for wear, Tyrion told Lord Varys that he wouldn’t be ending up on the Iron Throne. “You could help another climb those steps and take that seat,” Varys replied.

“The Seven Kingdoms needs a ruler loved by millions, with a powerful army and the right family name,” Varys told Tyrion later in the clip, as the two stood on a walkway overlooking the sea. Tyrion wished Varys, “good luck finding him.” It was then that the other shoe dropped. “Who said anything about him?” Varys asked. Cut to footage of Daenerys Targaryen.

Another Wedding?

Third time’s the charm? It looks like Margaery Tyrell will be walking down the aisle again. There was a snippet showing the twice-before-wed Margaery standing on the steps where she last said “I do” to Joffrey. This time though, she’s next to his little brother, a crowned Tommen Baratheon (cough, cough Lannister). Sadly, Ser Pounce is nowhere to be found.

Ser Jorah Is Back!

Many were wondering if Daenerys sending Ser Jorah away (for learning he spied on her in the early days of their relationship) was going to mean less Iain Glenn on screen, but Ser Jorah looked to be in a battle for his life in the trailer. He was facing off in a ring against an armored opponent wielding a spear.

Oberyn’s Daughters!

In a blink and you miss it moment, the tease offered the first look at the Sand Snakes – the daughters of the dearly departed Prince Oberyn Martell (who lost his life in Season 4 after losing in the ring to The Mountain). In just the quick glimpse, one of Oberyn’s bastard girls used the crack of a whip to knock a small barrel off of a man laying down (as Ellaria Sand watched!). The impressive feat was quickly followed by a glimpse at a palace, presumably Dorne!

Badass Dany!

“I’m not going to stop the wheel, I’m going to break the wheel,” Daenerys said in the clip, presumably about things in Meereen, where she ended the season still battling with the Masters. And, it looks like her translator, Missandei, is about to get a more intriguing storyline too. She looked to be getting horizontal with the young eunuch she was flirting with last season — the leader of the Unsullied, Grey Worm!

Other things we spotted: One of Dany’s very angry dragons, Wildlings ready to fight, Jon Snow continuing to battle at The Wall, The Red Priestess burning things (again), Bronn (yes!) wielding a sword, Arya Stark approaching a black and white door, and later, taking a long look at her sword Needle, Sansa getting more instruction on life from Littlefinger (“avenge them!”), a riot, and a few characters apparently getting some action (Margaery? The Red Priestess?)!

The full sneak peek trailer screens after the conclusion of Season 4, Episodes 9 and 10 on IMAX screens. “Game of Thrones” Season 5 premieres April 12 on HBO.
