Judy Davis was previously attached to the role.

Asked by Access in January about how the show would return, Kiefer said a meet up of international leaders brings Jack back.

“We pick up four years after the end of Season 8, and at the end of Season 8 the President… had decided to come clean about the things that she had done which were illegal. Jack Bauer was implicated in that. She gave him a small window [in which] to escape. He did. He made it to Eastern Europe where he has been hiding,” Kiefer said. “The President of the United States is going to meet with the Prime Minister of Great Britain in London and something is going to happen there and Jack Bauer surfaces there.”

“24: Live Another Day” will premiere on Monday, May 5 on Fox.
