‘Game Of Thrones’: Sophie Turner On That Big Season 6 Premiere Scene

When fans last saw Sansa Stark in “Game of Thrones”
Season 5, she was making a break for it with Theon Greyjoy/Reek.

(Spoiler alert! This
story contains plot details from the “Game of Thrones” Season 6
premiere, “The Red Woman.”)

After leaping off of a wall at Winterfell and running for
her life with Theon/Reek (Alfie Allen), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) came very
close to once again becoming a prisoner of the Boltons. On Sunday night though,
there was a heroic twist when the cavalry arrived.

Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) and
Podrick Payne (Daniel Portman) emerged from the woods, and with the help of
Theon, they saved Sansa by defeating the Bolton troops, cutting them down in a
frosty forest.

“She doesn’t have many people in
her life that will actually fight for her and show that they’re loyal to her
and be by her side, so I think that that was also a big moment for her, to have
someone that’s really [there] for her and wants to help her,” Sophie said,
when Access asked about Brienne saving her character.

And Sansa can learn from her new knight.

“She’s definitely an inspiration for her
in terms of strength, but also, Brienne is one of those people that really
doesn’t back down to anyone, and doesn’t bow down to pressure or anything, and
she just stands up and I think Sansa really learns that from her,” Sophie
said. “But, at the same time, she has [Brienne], so she doesn’t really
need to. She’s got Brienne on her side.”

Theon was also important to the trio defeating the Boltons, so does that help pave the way toward forgiveness?

“It’s difficult because he didn’t
do it. I mean, he was a traitor to Robb, but with the boys [Bran and Rickon,
who Theon was rumored to have killed], obviously he didn’t do it. But I think
now they’ve kind of put all that to the side and they’re just kind of focusing
on staying alive and being together and helping each other survive and I think
that’s it,” Sophie said. “I wouldn’t say he’s forgiven, but it’s
forgotten about.”

Now that she is free from the Boltons,
though, what is Sansa’s goal?

“At first, it was just kind of
like she’s very much driven by just wanting to survive and see her family
again,” Sophie said. “This [time] she’s more bitter and she’s more
hate-filled and she’s — I think she’s a bit more revenge-driven now.”

Sophie was at the “Game of
Thrones” premiere earlier this month in Hollywood and one of her favorite reactions from the crowd inside was when many gasped at Carice van Houten’s Melisandre scene at the end of the episode.

“I think the last scene with Melisandre
was pretty intense and hearing people [gasp], because it’s just so – and it
doesn’t mean anything yet, and everyone
is just kind of like, ‘What the hell is happening?’ And that’s quite exciting.
But I’ve heard there are theories – fan theories – going around at about it,”
she said

Asked if there will be more big shocks this season, Sophie said yes.

“There’s a lot of shocks this season. You
can’t tell if that’s a good or bad thing, but there are a lot of pleasant
shocks as well this season,” she said.

“Game of Thrones” Season 6
continues Sundays at 9 PM ET/PT on HBO.
