George Clinton, Justin Guarini & More Ready To Go ‘Country’

He may make his funk the P-Funk, but soon, George Clinton will be topping his dreadlocks with a cowboy hat.

The legendary Parliament-Funkadelic frontman will join a cast including former beauty pageant winner Tara Conner, singer Taylor Dayne, drummer & singer Micky Dolenz, drumming musician Sheila E., actor Richard Grieco and “American Idol” runner-up Justin Guarini on the third season of CMT’s “Gone Country,” a reality competition that drops its contestants in Nashville for two weeks of country music culture immersion.

It’ll be Justin’s second shot at reality glory — he was the runner-up of the first season of “Idol.”

He’ll likely face steep competition from Tara Conner, who won Miss USA in 2006.

Along with Clinton, the cast includes a few veteran musicians — Taylor, best known for ‘90s No. 1 single “Love Will Lead You Back,” Micky, the drummer and lead singer of the Monkees, and Prince protégé Sheila E.

Richard (“21 Jump Street”) will also have the chance to show off his musical chops — he’s played in bands that include the Dunmore Band and Wasteland Park since the mid-‘90s.

Country star John Rich will return as host. The show’s previous winners are Julio Iglesias, Jr. and Sebastian Bach.

The show arrives in January 2009.
