George Clooney’s Anti-Hacker Plea To Hollywood: ‘Nobody Signed The Letter’

Following the Sony hacking scandal and the studio’s decision to pull “The Interview,” George Clooney rallied Hollywood to take a stand – but did anyone?

The Oscar-winning actor and director attempted to join forces with Hollywood’s major studio players to create a united front against the demands of the hackers – which is believed to have originated in North Korea.

But it appears his efforts fell on deaf ears.

“I’m not going to name anyone, that’s not what I’m here to do, but nobody signed the letter,” the actor told Deadline, of the petition which asked Hollywood studio heads to stand with Sony in not giving in to the hackers’ demands.

The actor is worried that Hollywood’s inaction surrounding the Sony hack will open the floodgates for future demands from outside groups.

“All that [petition was saying] basically saying is, we’re not going to give in to a ransom. As we watched one group be completely vilified, nobody stood up. Nobody took that stand. Now, I say this is a situation we are going to have to come to terms with, a new paradigm and a new way of handling our business. Because this could happen to an electric company, a car company, a newsroom. It could happen to anybody,” he explained.

As for the future of the Seth Rogen and James Franco satire, George wants it to be seen.

“We should be in the position right now of going on offense with this… Stick it online,” he said. “Do whatever you can to get this movie out. Not because everybody has to see the movie, but because I’m not going to be told we can’t see the movie. That’s the most important part.

Adding, “We cannot be told we can’t see something by Kim Jong-un, of all f***ing people.”
