George Clooney’s Rep Says He Does Not Currently Have Malaria After Piers Morgan Tweets About It (Although, He ‘Did’)

George Clooney does not have malaria, a rep for the Oscar winner confirmed to Access Hollywood on Thursday.

On Thursday, CNN’s new 9 PM hour talk show host Piers Morgan Tweeted that the actor had malaria and would be discussing it on Friday’s “Piers Morgan Tonight.”

“BREAKING NEWS: George Clooney has contracted malaria following recent trip to Sudan. Reveals news on @PiersTonight tomorrow 9PM ET,” the host wrote on his Twitter page.

Clooney’s rep, however, quickly set the rumor straight to Access Hollywood.

“George is completely over the Malaria he contracted while in the Sudan during the first week in January,” his rep told Access, adding that Clooney’s appearance on Morgan’s show was actually taped seven days ago – on January 13.

The actor himself added that his recuperation from the disease was a good lesson about the perils people face in Africa.

“This illustrates how with proper medication, the most lethal condition in Africa, can be reduced to bad ten days instead of a death sentence,” Clooney said in a statement.

Clooney’s January malaria bout was his second.

As a former tabloid editor, Morgan knows how to make headlines. After Tweeting his so-called “Breaking News” announcement, Morgan added more information, stemming from his interview from more than a week ago.

“More Clooney – it’s his 2nd bout of malaria. Taking medication but feeling rough,” Morgan added.

Morgan later updated his Twitter account to note that Clooney was no longer ill with the disease.

“Clooney malaria update: now have 24,563 offers to nurse him. But his rep says medication’s worked and he’s OK,” he wrote.
