George Takei – the original Sulu on “Star Trek – is weighing in on J.J. Abrams moving from the “Trek” universe to the “Star Wars” universe.
“I am all for that, I endorse it,” the actor told Access Hollywood’s Scott “Movie” Mantz, when asked about Abrams new gig.
George holds the honor of being the only “Trek” actor to also work in the world of Darth Vader.
“I showed the path to J.J.,” he told Scott, explaining that he voiced Lok Durd in the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”
As for the director’s reboot of “Star Trek,” the original Sulu was very pleased with Abrams’ take on the beloved franchise.
“J.J. came and thought out of the box,” he said. “It was an exciting show, which was ‘Star Trek,’ it was a futuristic show, which was ‘Star Trek.’”
The 75-year-old actor was happy that fresh-faced actors were cast in the reboot.
“I’m glad that they cast younger people… Can you imagine Bill Shatner today bouncing around? It wouldn’t have had the same feel,” he said with a laugh about his former 81-year-old co-star.
