Gerard Butler Defends Olympus Has Fallen’s Extreme Violence

Gerard Butler’s latest, “Olympus Has Fallen,” about a terrorist attack on The White House, is filled with plenty action, but some are saying the violence might be too much.

Access Hollywood caught up with the actor at the movie’s premiere on Monday, where defended the film’s intensity.

“I’ve watched this movie around the country. I’ve seen it in Washington with political journalists and government officials,” he told Access. “And women are as into this movie as men because it touches on values and vulnerabilities that we all have and it’s incredibly inspiring.”

The actor, who plays a disgraced former Secret Service agent caught in the crossfire of an attack on The White House, said it’s about much more than explosions and gun battles.

“It’s actually more about heroism,” he continued.

So action-packed, in fact, that the actor took his fair share of bumps and bruises while filming the action-filled movie.

“I lost this fingernail… I must’ve been hit about 300 times over three days of fighting,” he told Access. “It’s full of every kind of [stunt] imaginable… it was intense!”

“Olympus Has Fallen” –also starring Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart, Dylan McDermott and Angela Bassett – opens on March 22.
