‘Gilmore Girls’ Reunion Roundup: No Movie Plans

An epic “Gilmore Girls” reunion closed the 4th season of the ATX TV Festival in Austin on Saturday night.

The series starring Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel ran on The WB network from 2000-2007. The sold-out crowd included fans old and new (the series being available on Netflix has resulted in a resurgence of fans). The biggest news? When asked about a potential movie, creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said, “Nothing is in the works.”

The reunion, moderated by Entertainment Weekly’s Jessica Shaw, immediately began with the discussion of Rory’s boyfriends. Currently on ABC’s “The Whispers,” Milo Ventimiglia was Team Dean (played by “Supernatural’s” Jared Padalecki). Padalecki was Team Jess, played by Ventimiglia. Matt Czuchry, now on CBS’ “The Good Wife,” was Team Jess. Ventimiglia joked, “Logan was a dick. Matt is the coolest guy on the planet.”

When asked about Alexis Bledel’s character, Rory, losing her virginity so late in the series in the fourth season finale, Sherman-Palladino shared that The WB was pushing her for a while. “At the time, all characters [on TV] were little whores. Not my girl.” Sherman-Palladino always wanted it to be with Rory’s first love Dean, and not when they were together.

There were a few Stars Hollow residents missing, including Melissa McCarthy, who played Lorelai’s (Lauren Graham) best friend Sookie since the series start. Also missing, Gilmore family patriarch Ed Herrmann who passed away in December of last year. There wasn’t a dry eye in the theatre after a special tribute of show clips of Herrmann was shown. Lauren Graham teared up and wiped her tears with a tissue. Sherman-Palladino shared that he was the first cast member to sign up for the reunion. They had an empty chair onstage in his honor.
