Girl Meets World: Rider Strong In Talks To Guest Star

The cast of “Girl Meets World” just keeps on getting better!

Rider Strong, who played Shawn Hunter, on “Boy Meets World,” says he is in talks to appear on Disney Channel’s upcoming spinoff.

“We’ve been talking — I just want it to be done right,” Rider told E!. “I really want it to be classy and good. I want it to be something that makes the fans proud.”

The actor, now 33, said feels like he should “show up at some point and finish the storyline” on “Girl Meets World,” but hopes his character would be in a happier place if Shawn were to reappear (though, admittedly, he’d have to cause some sort of mischief with BFF Cory Matthews, played by Ben Savage).

“I feel like Shawn was destined for tragedy. I mean, gosh, they killed my father, my mother abandoned me, my girlfriend and I broke up at the end of the show,” he said, of where his character left off on the “BMW” finale in 2000. “They really just made Shawn’s life hell. It would be good if he’s [causing] trouble, but in general is happy.”

Rider also voiced concern over what many “Boy Meets World” fans have been wondering regarding the Disney spinoff – how will the new potential series keep “BMW” enthusiasts hooked while earning a new, younger Disney channel audience?

“[‘GMW’] has to define itself and it has this weird challenge of appealing to a new audience, but then also appealing to the old ‘Boy Meets World’ audience,” he said. “I don’t know how they are going to pull that off.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, the “Girl Meets World” pilot – starring “BMW” stars Danielle Fishel (Topanga Lawrence) and Ben Savage, was filmed in March and is awaiting pickup.
