Giuliana & Bill Rancic Reveal Surrogate’s Miscarriage: ‘We Were Devastated’

Giuliana and Bill Rancic have hit another painful setback in their quest to expand their family.

The couple – who is trying to have a second child – has revealed that their surrogate was pregnant, but lost the baby.

“This whole season on ‘Giuliana and Bill’ we’ve been trying to have another baby”” Bill told People, referencing the family’s E! reality show. “Unfortunately our surrogate Delphine who we love very much had a miscarriage.

“It’s something that we didn’t see coming,” he continued. “We were devastated.”

Bill said he and Giuliana were excited about the pregnancy news, but also cautious, as they’ve experienced a miscarriage in the past.

“She was about nine weeks pregnant. We were pretty close to getting into the safe zone,” Bill told the mag of the surrogate. “We experienced a miscarriage years ago when we were trying with Giuliana, so we had been keeping the pregnancy news tight to the vest.”

The couple feels blessed to have their surrogate (who carried and delivered their 21-month-old son Duke) and said the miscarriage was twice as hard this time around, as it took a toll on both Giuliana and Delphine.

“Delphine is amazing. We hit the surrogate lottery when we met her. Obviously this was no fault of hers,” Bill said. “It’s a double sadness because we didn’t want her to feel bad. And Giuliana was rather distraught at first, but she’s tough.

“In times like this we rely on our faith,” he added, “Once the tears went away we started to look towards the future.”

Despite the setback, Giuliana and Bill will press forward in their hopes of giving Duke a little sister or brother.

“We’re fighters. Hopefully we’re going to have good news and Delphine will be on board one more time,” Bill told the mag. “We’ve had to battle it out and that’s something that we’re going to continue to do.”
