Giuliana Rancic Addresses Thin Figure

In response to criticism of her thin appearance, Giuliana Rancic has spoken out about her slender frame.

The E! News host – who underwent a double mastectomy in 2011 after being diagnosed with breast cancer – explained that the cancer-suppressing medication she began taking in 2012 has affected her ability to gain weight.

“I started noticing that I was eating a lot, but not gaining weight at all,” she told People. “I was concerned.”

Giuliana said that it’s “hurtful” to hear such negative remarks and false rumors of an eating disorder or the return of her cancer. But, she is grateful her cancer is able to be treated with medication and said that she does not deprive herself of food.

“I’m sorry that some people think I’m disgustingly skinny, as they put it, but there’s nothing I can do. I’m lucky that I even have the type of cancer that reacts to the medicine,” she said. “I eat a very robust, healthy, balanced diet and dessert almost every night. I’m not hiding from anything.”

The “Fashion Police” co-host often faces criticism of her own when she sports dresses that reveal her skinny figure and said she wishes her appearance didn’t take the focus away from the job she’s doing.

“I never want my weight to distract people from what I do,” she told the mag. “But it is becoming a distraction, [whenever] I wear something sleeveless, show my arms, my back.”

Giuliana also said that she isn’t happy with her own reflection and would like to have a curvier silhouette.

“I look in the mirror and it’s hard for me,” she said. “I am really thin. I want to look fit and beautiful and sexy, and I can’t.”

Giuliana – whose memoir, “Going Off Script,” will be released on April 7 – also addressed her struggle to give her 2-year-old son, Duke, a sibling. Due to risks associated with the medication she’s on, pregnancy could be dangerous for the mom of one. So, she enlisted the help of a surrogate – as she did with Duke – to carry her and husband Bill Rancic’s second baby.

Sadly, the couple learned on New Year’s Eve that the surrogate had miscarried their final embryo. Their surrogate also miscarried in 2014.

“It was painful,” she told the mag. “We were so optimistic with this last embryo. We thought, ‘This is definitely going to work. This is our last shot.'”

Giuliana said they are now considering adding to their family via adoption.

“We’re open to everything,” she said. “I think adoption is a beautiful gift you’re giving each other. And it’s funny, I’m even more open to [adoption] than I was before. Because I think to myself, ‘I love Duke so much, if I couldn’t take care of him, I hope there would be someone else who would love him.'”
