Glam Slam: 2010 Vanity Fair Best Dressed List

Today Vanity Fair announced its 71st Annual International Best-Dressed Poll. The magazine says there’s an “eclectic feel to this year’s ranking of the style elite.” I agree! I don’t always “get” this list because it is very elitist, often including princesses, countesses and lots of other people that I have never ever heard of.

This year someone just about everyone has heard of… Lady Gaga… makes the list in their “Originals” category and I couldn’t agree more. Love that she was included (she’s even the mag’s covergirl) and VF describes her style as channeling “Gypsy Rose Lee, Salvador Dali, Isabella Blow… and Rosie the Jetsons’ Robot Maid (sometimes all in one outfit).”

Michelle Obama makes the list again with the magazine saying she’s reviving “arms, belts, cardigans, shifts, high hair, kitten-heel pumps.”

Actresses Carey Mulligan (loved her Prada dress with the hardware from the Oscars!) and Diane Kruger make the cut. Diane says her favorite item of clothing is “anything from Chanel.” A girl after my own heart!

The best dressed men list includes director Martin Scorsese and Javier Bardem, who says his style influence is whatever role he is working on at the time. “I’ll investigate the style of the character intensely. I will wear the clothes and walk around the streets in them.”

Alec Baldwin’s style idol is James Bond. His favorite fashion purchase of the year is “a tie between a ToyWatch Jelly and Tom Ford tuxedos.”

Among recording artist Pharrell Williams’ favorite items of clothing? “SpongeBob toe socks”!

Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal make the best-dressed “Siblings” list.

This one left me scratching my head. Helena Bonham Carter makes the best dressed list. What? Yes, they put her in the “Originals” category and she is original for sure… but WOW! Her crazy outfits are not good in any way, shape or form in my book.

David Beckham earns Hall of Fame status. And rightfully so. The guy is the epitome of style. His favorite item of clothing: “Dior jeans and white T-shirt.” Although, I must say, most of the women in our office prefer him in those Armani underwear ads where he isn’t wearing much in the way of clothing at all. In this case, the clothing does NOT make the man.
