SKIN
Finding the best SPF for your needs—whether you want a lightweight formula to fight fine lines, or just stay protected while you swim—is an important way to help you stay safe in the sun. For days when you’re mostly indoors, you can shield your skin from UVA and UVB rays with a broad spectrum SPF of at least 15. If you’ll be outside, go for an SPF 30 or above. From anti-aging and waterproof to sheer and broad spectrum, there is a perfect formula for everyone. You’ll want to make sure to apply it correctly by using moisturizer first, then SPF, then makeup. Additionally, don’t forget the commonly overlooked areas—ears, tops of feet and the back of your neck.

If you happen to get a sunburn, using calming products with ingredients like herbs, lavender, aloe or chamomile will nourish red, irritated skin. To prevent scarring and give new cells a chance to grow, leave peeling skin alone and let it come off by itself. Also, try making a cold compress by soaking a washcloth in equal parts whole milk and cold water and applying it to the skin. The milk protein helps ease discomfort.

If you want to keep your skin looking smooth longer, you can slow down stubble growth by applying a hair-inhibiting lotion twice a day. You won’t have to shave or wax as often. To keep legs bronzed too, try a formula with self-tanning ingredients.

Control breakouts wherever they happen. A body wash containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide will combat spots on your back and décolletage. To unclog pores and fight pimples on your face, try using a system that includes a salicylic acid-based cleanser and treatment. Also, a soothing oil-free moisturizer will help reduce redness.

MAKEUP
Finding the best warm-weather makeup can keep you gorgeous from day until night. To make your look melt-proof, try switching to lightweight products like sheer foundation, moisturizer and sunscreen. Heavy formulas will absorb the makeup you put on top of them. Also, choosing the right texture makes a difference. You can make powder shadow last longer by applying it with a damp brush or go for cream shadow. Using a stain lip color is a plus, as it stays put. Lastly, for ultimate staying power try using waterproof or long-wear formulas.

HAIR
As temperatures start to heat up, you’ll want to protect your hair and keep strands healthy, silky and full of volume. Try coating hair with a leave-in conditioner before swimming. This prevents locks from drying out and protects hair color from changing. Also, it’s important to shield your hair from harmful rays. Using styling products, like hair spray, with UV filters or a UV protector will help. For the best protection, cover your head with a hat or scarf. And remember to always get the chlorine out of your hair after swimming. Rinse it well and try using a shampoo and conditioner specifically formulated to get rid of any build-up.

If you want to stay frizz-free this summer, there are plenty of ways to keep hair looking polished regardless of your hair type. To keep hair straight, apply an anti-frizz spray or cream to damp hair before blow-drying for an all-day smoothness. Using a texturizing foam on wavy hair will give tousled body and a light, touchable hold. Work a curl-enhancing foam into damp hair to add shape and protect against humidity, if your hair is curly.
