Glam Slam: Beyonce’s New Bangs

I’m sure you’ve seen Beyonce’s new super short bangs by now. They’ve created quite the ‘do debate… and a lot of headlines. USA Today went with “The internet says no to Beyonce’s new bangs.”

Some people compared her to iconic pin-up girl Bettie Page…while others have said Moe from The Three Stooges. Ouch!

What do you think? I love Beyonce, but I’m not quite sold on this look either.

Our social media got hundreds of responses — a few people liked the look, most did not though…

  • “Even the Queen B gas a bad hair day”
  • ”She almost looks like Jay-Z…LOL”
  • “She’s still beautiful, but no way, I don’t like this on nobody!!”

You get the gist. I do love how fearless Beyoncé is though, when it comes to trying all kinds of styles.

“The look has a very edgy, hipster feel,” says Matrix celebrity stylist George Papanikolas, who has worked with Miranda Kerr, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Megan Fox and Minka Kelly. “It could be achieved in two ways. You can cut extra wide, blunt cut bangs to get the look if you are very committed to it. To keep the bangs in control, smoothing cream is a must and is a must if you have wavy or curly hair so that they hold the shape. You can apply to damp hair before blow-drying to help control frizz and flyaways for smoother, more manageable bangs.

“Or, you can create it with a human hair bang piece if you want to wear it as a fashion accessory. Hairpieces are a great way to play with this kind of look without the commitment of bangs,” George explains. “It’s most likely a clip in piece and human hair is the best choice as it can be styled and colored to match your hair. They are great accessories to change up for look for the night, or experiment with a style before you commit.”

If you are thinking of giving the look a try, George has a few suggestions.

“Blunt bangs are usually best for straight hair, or hair with a soft wave and look best with an oval, heart or square face shape. Those with round face shapes should avoid them. Curly or wavy hair can wear blunt bangs, but it will require a lot of upkeep and maintenance.”
