My sister, who has a one month old, asked me the other day where she could get a charm necklace with her baby’s initial on it. Funny — I had just gone through my own charm necklace search to honor my 3-year-old daughter.
It wasn’t as easy as I thought. I bought a necklace and a small pave letter “H” from one of my favorites- Jennifer Fisher, a jewelry designer known for her wide range of charms. It can be challenging to buy online though! The chain I picked was larger than I thought it would be and people have asked me if the “H” is a pi sign, so I guess it’s hard to read because it’s so small. (Hey, it was all I could afford!) It’s also too dainty for the chain I chose.
I ended up going to Helen Ficalora in Beverly Hills and buying an “H” disc charm, which I added to the necklace and now I love it. The bigger circle charm added some heft and weight to the necklace and now the little pave “H” is a nice addition. It was so much easier to actually go into a store and try things on, but I know that’s not always the case.
I would suggest you do as much research as you can and ask for extra photos — which is something I should have done. Also try to buy from companies that will accept returns, although most personalized items are not returnable.
Charms are a good gift for any mom or grandmother, whether it’s Mother’s Day or not. Here are a few good ones to check out.
